For the first day, things seemed to run relatively smoothly. The autoclave was working non'stop, the film developer and x'ray machine work great, and the hand pieces worked all day! We hooked up a cavitron (tooth cleaning unit) to a garden spraying bottle (don´t worry it was brand new) and it worked! Thanks to Discus Dental we have an AWESOME cordless prophy piece that has been working great since we have the three chairs up and running with handpieces for restorations.
After each procedure, every patient received oral hygiene instructions, fluoride, a toothbrush, toothpaste and floss. It was so nice to give each patient a little lesson on what to do at home. Hopefully, they will be able to take better care of their teeth on their own.
We also saw 20 girls from the mission´s boarding school. We taught them a class on oral health hygiene, gave them fluoride, and did screenings for future appointments later this week. We will see the rest of the school tomorrow.
All of the people were so happy to have us all there and I really think that we awere able to help many people today. It feels so good to be able to help people in such need!
We are really looking forward to tomorrow and what the day has in store for us. A few of us will be visiting a small village and providing oral health instruction and fluoride. Until tomorrow...
